Introducing the world premiere of Huckleberry Hostel, a hilarious, fast-paced farce set in Soulard’s Huckleberry Finn Youth Hostel. All OnSite plays are written specifically for a chosen locale, and this new work is no exception. It invites audience members to join in the chaotic fun as guests of the hostel.
Written by Kevin Kline award winner Dan Rubin, Huckleberry Hostel introduces us to the owners of the hostel, Widow Douglas and Miss Watson, two sisters whose big personalities couldn’t be more different, along with a host of other eccentric characters. With multiple plot twists, love triangles, and dark secrets, “guests” can’t help but be amused and engaged.
Perhaps the production’s most unique aspect is that the play is divided into two plays that are performed simultaneously, the cast members moving back and forth from one play to the other. Upon checking into the hostel, guests will be given room assignments, dividing the audience into two halves. Every time an actor exits one play, he or she will enter the other play; there is no off stage time for actors in this show. At intermission, the two audience groups will switch rooms in order to see the other half of the performance. The production mirrors real life: one can’t be everywhere at once and different things happen in different places. Huckleberry Hostel lets audience members experience both sides of the story.
Audience members will follow the action throughout the hostel’s buildings and grounds and must be able to climb stairs.
The cast includes Jenn Bock, Ted Jordan, Ann Marie Mohr, Emily Piro, and Antonio Rodriguez.
